The following words can be spelled in two ways. The commonest spelling is given first.

`Racket' can be spelled `racquet' when used to refer to a bat with strings which is used for playing a game such as tennis or squash.

Two words have alternative spellings in British English only:
jail — gaol, wagon — waggon

In American English, the spellings `jail' and `wagon' are used.

'-ise' and '-ize'
